The aim of the competition is to rejuvenate the land on the other side of the Taj Mahal, across the river; on the site of the Mehtab Bagh.
The Mehtab Bagh must not remain a separate tourist destination to visit, just to get another view of the Mughal marvel, Taj Mahal; but act as an extension of its beautiful architecture, into a harmonious continuation on the other side of the river.
Taj Mahal is often referred to as the symbol of love. The design intervention should aim at propagating the message of love through the language of art and architecture.
Site:
The site is the location of Mehtab Bagh, facing the Taj Mahal; on the other side of the River Yamuna. The main design intervention should be within this 84,600 m2 site; although certain elements may project beyond the site boundary if necessary for the design proposal.
Area Program:
One of the reasons that the Mehtab Bagh is scantily visited by tourists is that it misses a purpose for their visit and their time. It is located on the other end of the river and requires a good half an hour trip from the Taj itself. And all this journeying ultimately ends in just another view of the Taj, from across the river. Hence most people (with the exception of some passionate photographers) tend to skip it in their visit to Agra.
Apart from the tourists, the local people living in Agra aren’t too fascinated about visiting the Mehtab Bagh either.
Hence the program must involve a greater purpose in the form of a built space of minimum 10,000 m2; attracting both the tourists visiting Agra, as well as the local people. There is no limit to the maximum built up area.
Some of the built functions that can be Included are:
Museums, galleries, souvenir shops, restaurants, library, café, theatre, cultural center, pavilions, shops, yoga center, a center for performing arts, wellness center, etc.
These are just some of the functions that you can accommodate within your built spaces, but the skies are the limit to what extra activities you can think of and put. So let wild your imaginations and build an entire village of things you deem important.
The program has been so designed with minimum restrictions, for one sole reason. That is, to get a maximum response with a large number of creative solutions towards completing Taj | the incomplete story of love.
Submission Requirements:
Your design proposal must be presented in one landscape oriented A1 sheet.
It must depict a Site Plan and Ground floor plan. You may use other techniques to explain your design intent, like:
Sketches, 3D visualizations, model photographs, plans, sections, elevations, etc.
The language for this competition is English only, and all the text must be in English with a maximum of 500 words for project explanation. Your sheet must not include your name or any personal information that may give away your identity. Your team-code must be mentioned in the top right-hand corner of your sheet. Do not forget it, as that is how your sheet would be identified.
The submission should be mailed to submission@architize.com with the team-code as the subject. The submission should be a high-resolution JPEG containing the A1 Sheet with the file name as the team-code as well. The file size should not exceed 20 MB.
